Korea Maritime & Ocean University (KMOU, President Doeghee Doh) sets out to collaborate with major universities in eastern Japan to strengthen its global competitiveness.

KMOU recently announced that it has signed an agreement for conducting international academic exchanges with Kanto Gakuin University located in Japan in an effort to engage in collaboration. The signing ceremony was held at Kanto Gakuin University on March 23.

Under this agreement, the two universities will collaborate for supporting advancement in the field of metal material surface treatment. As prevention of corrosion is crucial in shipbuilding and repair, the two universities will join forces to find meaningful research results.

With continuous collaboration between KMOU's Korea Corrosion Prevention Research Center and Kanto Gakuin University's Materials and Surface Engineering Research Institute, the two universities hope to accelerate the advancement of leading anti-corrosion technologies.

Furthermore, KMOU will share information about CAMPUS Asia Plus, its Korea-Japan-China higher education exchange collaboration program, so that students of Kanto Gakuin University can also participate in it.

KMOU will also collaborate with Kanto Gakuin University to operate industry-academia projects related to K-biz Supporters Network.

In addition, KMOU had in-depth discussions with Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology to pursue mutual benefits.

In addition to the ongoing dual degree program in marine science and technology with Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, KMOU will also engage in academic exchanges to nurture talented individuals in the field of artificial intelligence in marine science. Furthermore, the two universities provide courses held on their training ships to foster talented maritime students. Online courses are also provided in both universities so as to offer an educational platform that can be operated without the need for physical travel.

Such numerous collaborations with major universities in eastern Japan are expected to further strengthen KMOU's global competencies.

President Doeghee Doh at KMOU said, "We will establish a solid educational basis by working together with neighboring countries, such as Japan, to develop international academic competencies. We will remain committed to expanding exchanges between students, faculty members, and researchers, and collaborating on major projects with other universities."
