Korea Marine & Ocean University hosts invitation event for the visiting delegation of education officials and students from Ho Chi Minh City
Korea Marine & Ocean University (President Dong Keun Ryoo) hosted the “Invitation event for the visiting delegation of education officials and students from Ho Chi Minh City 2025” on the 22nd.
The event was organized by the Busan Global City Foundation as part of the “Invitation of Education Officials and Students from Ho Chi Minh City to Busan 2025” program for university officials and prospective international students in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In November 2024, Korea Marine & Ocean University visited Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance and Ho Chi Minh City Open University. This event was a follow-up to that visit and aimed to extend beyond solely promoting overseas study, seeking to strengthen mutual exchanges and build sustainable partnerships.
The delegation consisted of 16 people (6 education officials and 10 prospective international students) from both universities. Members of the delegation also included NHAN CAM TRI, Vice President; PHAM THI THY LINH, Dean, Department of Korean Language; NGUYEN NGOC KHANH LINH, Administrative Officer, Department of Korean Language from the University of Economics and Finance; and VU THI THUAN, Lecturer, Department of Korean Language; TRINH THI HANH, Lecturer, Department of Korean Language; and TRUONG THI THOA, Lecturer, Department of Korean Language from the Open University. In addition, 10 students (5 prospective international students from each university) also experienced the study abroad environment at Korea Marine & Ocean University.
The event began at 10 a.m. The program consisted of an introduction to the school and admission information session, a formal meeting with the president, a meeting with Vietnamese students, a tour of the training ship Hanbada, and a tour of major educational facilities, including the new library. The international students watched a video introducing international student support policies and spoke to Vietnamese students to get specific information about studying abroad and clarify any queries. The students also toured the actual learning environment, such as the training ship and library, to increase their interest and understanding of the environment in Busan.
The visit was an important opportunity to expand practical exchanges with universities in Vietnam as well as explore the possibility of sustained collaboration in education and research. Such a collaboration would include attracting meritorious international students, developing joint curricula, and joint academic and research activities.
Dong Keun Ryoo, President of Korea Marine & Ocean University, noted that "As a global educational institution specializing in maritime studies, we are continuously expanding exchanges with leading universities around the world.". He continued, "We believe that inviting the visiting delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City University is more than just a visit, but an important starting point that can lead to practical cooperation in the future. We will actively support the continued exchange and cooperation between the two universities."
