KMOU was appointed as an outstanding model on 'the second half of 2013 certification system of education donation' sponsored by MOE and run by KOFAC. The program sets exemplary practice rules to reinforce competitiveness of public education through securing various opportunities for students under sixteen. In this system, the institutions or university clubs passing the examination are selected as 'Education Donation Institution or Club'. A total of 56 organizations were certified, among them 9 universities including KMOU.
KMOU has steadily been operating 'the mentoring program with the local underprivileged'. The mentoring program provides free educational experience by connecting the students who do not have much opportunity with university students. Also, 'LED scientific experiment education' has induced teenagers' interest about advanced scientific technology for the last twelve years. KMOU was selected as the awardee of 'The first Korea Education Donation Grand Prize' in recognition of the university's contribution to the spread and development of education donation.
Prof. Kim Yoon Hae, Dean of Student Affairs, said "We'll develop more programs through which the university can share its human and material resources with local community so that university students can participate in social services activities and local youths can study and build up their character.
