The Global Trade Experts incubating Program (GTEP) of KMU (Leader Prof. Yoo Il-Seon) was selected as the best group among 24 participating universities in the performance assessment by the MOTIE(Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy) and the KITA(Korea International Trade Association). Selected as the best group again since 2011, the GTEP Group will be provided an extra working expense of ten million Won.
The GTEP, supervised by the MOTIE and operated by the KITA, is an academic-industrial cooperation project targeting students in universities which intend to specialize their departments of trade and international commerce in order to cultivate global trade experts.
Adding business knowledge and hands-on experience to theory-centered university education, the project aims to cultivate and provide trade experts that can meet companies' demands.
KMU’s GTEP Group, which started in 2009, is differentiated from other GTEP groups in that it is specialized in exploring overseas market and increasing export for small and medium-sized businesses in shipbuilding materials, shipping and marine-related industries. In 2010, the group marked $13 million income with 13 actual records of exports. Moreover, the group attracted attention by making a $7.5 million export contract with NK Inc. in 2011. So far, more than 120 students have attended trade fairs at home and abroad and represented partner companies. As an intern, they helped the company’s global marketing with product presentation, sales meeting with buyers, making buyers list and interpretation.
Prof. Yoo, leader of the GTEP Group, said "While companies needed global marketing could set up their own global marketing team with the help of students, our students succeeded in getting employed at major companies through their experience in the GTEP.” He also added, "We will make a steady effort to achieve more than the initial objectives of the GTEP."
