Conference for Developing Ulsan Port into Global Logistics Hub

Korea Maritime University held a joint conference with Ulsan Port Authority for developing Ulsan Port into a hub of global logistics at the Multi-purpose Auditorium of Ulsan Port Marine Center on December 17, 2013.

This conference was arranged to seek policy directions for Ulsan Port to serve as a competitive port adapted to rapidly changing global economic and logistics environment. The conference was attended by more than 100 people, including experts in academic and research institutions and concerned people in civil organizations.

The conference program was composed of 5 presentations and general discussion after an opening address by Jong-Rok Park (President of Ulsan Port Authority) and congratulatory messages by No-Jong Park (Administrator of Ulsan Regional Maritime Affairs & Port Office) and Han-Il Park (President of Korea Maritime University).

Through 5 presentations, a variety of development strategies for Ulsan Port were suggested. The presenters are as follows:

Prof. Ki-Myung An (Korea Maritime University):

The development strategy for Ulsan Port following the change of environment of global logistics

Prof. Kyoo-Tae Lee (UNIST):

Management diversified model of Ulsan Port Authority based on the North-Eastern Hub of Oil

Prof. Yong-John Shin (Korea Maritime University):

Prospect of manpower supply and plan for training experts in the field of shipping, ports and logistics

Prof. Tae-Seung Kim (Inha University)

Plan for promoting higher valued logistics industries of Ulsan Port hinterland

Prof. Gil-Soo Kim (Korea Maritime University)

Plan for promoting Ulsan Port to an international logistics point

President Han-Il Park of Korea Maritime University commented, “The timing of the conference was opportune since Ulsan Port just established their medium- and long-term strategies to continue developing into a first class port focusing on liquid logistics.
