Mr. Lim gave a special lecture titled “The New Maritime Era and the Role of KMOU” Around 500 KMOU staff and students attended
On September 22, Korea Maritime & Ocean University (President Doh, Deog Hee) hosted the “KMOU Anchor Forum - New Ocean Special Lecture” at the Grand Auditorium. Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), delivered the special guest lecture.
Secretary-General Lim is a KMOU alumnus who majored in nautical science and graduated in 1977. In 2016, Mr. Lim started his first term as Secretary-General of IMO, the United Nations specialized agency responsible for international shipping management. The IMO Assembly renewed his appointment as Secretary-General in 2019. He is serving his second four-year term (2020-2023).
With about 500 KMOU students and staff members in attendance, Secretary-General Lim delivered the lecture “The New Maritime Era and the Role of KMOU” to share his visions for the new maritime era and strengthening the capacity of the KMOU family.
Mr. Lim said, “Now is the best time to go overseas because there is a high global demand for technology in shipping and shipbuilding.” He also advised students to wisely utilize their advantage and potential strength as KMOU students.
As this special lecture was about consolidating the primary capacity of KMOU members, such as acquiring specialized maritime-related knowledge and nurturing multidisciplinary thinking, it significantly influenced the lecture attendees.
KMOU president Doh said he appreciates Secretary-General Lim for spending his valuable time by visiting his alma mater and added that he will make the utmost effort to provide indispensable opportunities such as similar lectures to embolden the students’ capacities for the globalized era.
