Establishment of a Foundation for Maritime Human Resource Exchange and Cooperation with the University and the Transportation and Human Resources Development Authority

Korea Maritime & Ocean University (President Doh Deog-hee) will establish a foundation for maritime human resource exchange and cooperation with the University and the Transportation and Human Resources Development Authority affiliated with the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation.

At the invitation of the Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Lim Sun-young, Director of International Exchange at Korea Maritime & Ocean University, attended an official meeting on the 25th and 26th last month to “set the foundation for exchanges and training cooperation of maritime professionals.” The meeting, held at Jakarta Marine Transportation University (STIP), was attended by key officials, including the Director of the Transportation and Human Resources Development Authority of the Transportation Ministry, high-ranking officials, and presidents of affiliated universities (a total of 27).

During this period, Director Lim Sun-young delivered a lecture at the Marine Transportation University titled “Introducing the Korea Maritime & Ocean University’s Human Exchange Program and Cooperative Measures to Improve the Quality of Maritime Human Resources.” The lecture covered topics related to the development of professional human resources in maritime distribution.

The lecture, held at the Marine Transportation University’s Auditorium, was attended by high-ranking officials from the Transportation Ministry’s Transportation and Human Resources Development Authority, the President of the Jakarta Marine Transportation University, and about 200 students, and received enthusiastic responses.

This provided an opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation beyond human exchanges between Korea Maritime & Ocean University and Indonesia's Marine Transportation University. The exchange of maritime professionals between the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation (Transportation and Human Resources Development Authority) and the Ministry of Education is expected to strengthen human resource capabilities and develop maritime education in the future.

The Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, said, "It is necessary to develop national education and human resource cooperation with foreign universities, and in the maritime sector, Korea Maritime & Ocean University has an advanced maritime system, and we hope that Korea Maritime & Ocean University’s visit to Indonesia will serve as a basis for the exchange and training of maritime professionals for the future development of the Korea-Indonesia maritime industry."

Lim Sun-young, Director of International Exchange at Korea Maritime & Ocean University, said, "We will make efforts to develop a customized curriculum and establish an advanced educational environment for the development of Korea-Indonesia maritime professionals." He continued, "We will strengthen our ongoing relationship with the Indonesian Transportation Ministry's Transportation and Human Resources Development Authority in order to establish a maritime exchange network between the two countries for the development of human resources through the exchange of maritime professionals."
