Korea Maritime and Ocean University’s Office of International Affairs announced the launch of the “Global Maritime & Ocean Sciences Invitation Program,” a 15-week program initiated in the first semester of 2022, to be held till June 21.

Students of the Asian Maritime and Fisheries University Forum’s member universities, as well as overseas sister universities, have participated in this program sponsored by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Province of Gyeongsangbuk-do.

A total of 16 students from sister universities in each of the four countries―Malaysia, Georgia, China, and Thailand―have participated in the program.

The participants were selected and dispatched from each country’s marine and fisheries schools. During the program, they will undertake Korean language and culture classes and focus on maritime and marine science theories, experiments, and practice. Additionally, they will embark on field trips, including visiting industries and research laboratories in the marine and fisheries field.
They will also collaborate with graduate students of Korea Maritime and Ocean University, to participate in thematic mentoring programs.

Lim Sun-young, the head of the Office of International Affairs, said, “This year’s first round of training with support from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Gyeongsangbuk-do is an excellent opportunity to share with the world Korea’s and Korea Maritime and Ocean University’s excellence in the field of marine science and technology. The spread of COVID-19 notwithstanding, we will conduct this training successfully by complying with quarantine guidelines and endeavor to cultivate global marine talent.”

On March 7, the Office of International Affairs held a welcome and opening ceremony in the BPA Convention Hall at the International Exchange and Cooperation Center.
